Beneath the glittering facade of career success, she yearned for something more, a life filled with passion and meaning.

Title: Beautiful writing, great story!
Review: Good writers have the most wonderful ideas for a book. Great writers have the persistence, courage, knowledge, and passion to get the story written down, weaving those ideas into the very fabric of existence. Veronica Henry is a great writer of contemporary stories with wonderful empathic, interesting characters. And Thirty Days in Paris is no exception.Juliet has just suffered from empty nest syndrome big time, and her husband is in some mid-life crisis that she can’t understand. They finally agree that they have grown apart and their marriage has reached its ‘sell by’ date. Juliet happens upon an advert: ” TO LET. Charming ‘chambre de bonne’ in the 2eme. Situated a stone’s throw from the glamorous Rue Saint-Honore with its chic boutiques….” Paris, the city of love, has always lingered in Julietâs heart. Now, fueled by whimsy and courage, she answers the ad. The tiny apartment becomes her cocoon, her canvas for reinvention. The plot is delicious! Juliet’s courage to move from a suburban-Mom’s life to a soon-to-be single middle aged woman on her own is tantilizing. The writing flows like wine. The surprises? Oh, they sizzle like crepes in a skilletâeach flip revealing a layer of vulnerability, resilience, and newfound purpose. Veronica Henryâs prose dances, and we, the readers, waltz along.

Title: starting a different way to be
Review: I liked the love story, and the remembrance of that special time. Over the years, the first love stored in her heart. The children and Jean Louis kindness to her. The joy of Paris, yes I would recommend this book.

Title: A sumptuous read
Review: I’ve visited Paris a few times, but this divine book made me want to drag a suitcase out of the attic, hop on the Eurostar and immerse myself in its magic once more.So beautifully written, the author captures perfectly the sights, sounds, smells and history of the French capital. Oh, and the food and drink descriptions! I finished it mid-afternoon and yearned for a cheeky glass of wine (et pourquoi pas?) and something delicious from an authentic Parisienne boulangerie or an oozing slice of aged cheese.Dual timelines don’t always work for me, but the story âabout Juliet at a major turning point in her life â effortlessly segues from her twenties to her fifties. My heart went out to young Juliet as an event pulls the rug from beneath her feet. And I cheered internally as she sets out on a journey of rediscovery and making peace with events from the past.Achingly romantic, filled with memorable characters (a couple for the wrong reasons, but you’ll have to read it to find out why), I raced through it with indecent haste. Perhaps I should have slowed down, savoured it more, but I devoured it as I would a plate of moules et frites.A couple of memorable lines. I highlighted many, but too many to list. She didn’t know what she wanted â only what she didn’t want. The tyranny of freedom was overwhelming. The pay-off was your own freedom. The worry never left you, of course, but the trick was not to worry until there was something to worry about. This one resonated strongly as a mother of young men. Because you never stop worrying about them. It’s imbedded in your DNA.I’d describe this as the perfect summer read â not that you can’t read it in the depths of winter â because it transports you to another world. One filled with tears, laughter, honesty and the realisation that change can be painful, but also incredibly uplifting. Highly recommended.

Title: Too Boring to Finish
Review: This is my first book by this author. Iâm partway through it and am going to abandon it and delete it from my library. I find both story lines, the one when she was a young au pair, and the one with her back in Paris as a 50 year old woman, separated from her husband and looking to restart her lifeâ¦boring. Itâs mostly all about her: me, me, meâ¦see how this unformed British girl became a successful, chic best selling ghost writer of books for celebrities. There are hints in the 50 year old segments that something awful happened that ruined everything when she was there when she was young, but the way that the book is going, I fear that whatever it is, will be a big letdown. Even the separation from her husband was boring. I just canât get interested or invested in the character and there are too many other books in my queue. When one is as far into a book as I am into this one and dread picking it up again instead of not being able to wait to get to it againâ¦well, itâs not the book for me.

Review: When Juliet divorces her husband she decides to go to Paris for 30 days, not only to come to terms with her past but also to figure out the woman she wants to be now that she is single and her children have flown the nest. In this book Paris is described so vividly that I felt I was there and certainly wanted to be. I loved the character of Juliet both for her bravery and vulnerability and enjoyed the dual timeline as we saw her both in the present and re-living her past. I absolutely adored this book.
